Members are advised that the reforms to the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 have passed through parliament last night without any amendments.

These major changes affect tenants, landlords and their property managers. POANSW  is now commencing the first phase of getting a deeper understanding on the new parts of the reforms, and what it may mean to the rental community. It is important for all to understand all of the changes that the new Bill includes.

The second phase will follow the release of the Regulations, which are the guidelines that dictate how the act should be applied to tenancies.

POANSW committee states that  while many of our lobbying efforts have been adopted in whole or part by the Government, a lot has been ignored, such as the Government’s proposed changes to:

• Alterations to property
• Break fees
• Domestic violence
• Rent increases, and more.

The bill will now be sent to the Governor of NSW for his assent. A date for the reforms to be
implemented is yet to be disclosed. For further details in regard to the reform Bill passing please visit…
